Suttons International Houston Expansion

Recently, Suttons International has expanded and developed our team in Houston, USA due to business growth. We thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce the team and help you get to know them and their background a little better.

CHARLES KNIFIC – SALES MANAGER

I was hired by Suttons in February 2020 as regional Sales Manager, based in Houston, Texas. I came with over 24 years” industry experience covering roles sales, operations, and technical services. I am proud to be part of the Suttons team which is built around their core values of Safety, Customer Focus, Personal Responsibility, Integrity, and Teamwork

My average day consists of interactions with our Suttons customer base, while optimising all modes of our transportation and logistics legs. Additionally, providing our customers with great customer service is a core focus.

We are growing the Houston and surrounding markets by being closer to some of our key customers and suppliers. It’s an exciting time, and looking forward to positive change for the future as we move into 2021.

I have worked in the shipping industry for nine years, specialising in domestic barge operations, offshore supply management and international containerised logistics.

Working with Suttons for the past two years has given me the opportunity to continue my growth in export, import and dedicated shipments. My goal is to bond as a work family with this newly formed Houston team as I did while working at our main office in New Jersey, USA.

 
 
DAWN GULLEY – OPERATIONS CONTROLLER

I have 16 years in the logistics industry. I was fortunate to receive a wonderful opportunity when I was 20 with Bertling Logistics assisting the Exports Manager with arranging container and break bulk shipments. I worked my way up in the six years I was there, concentrating on exports, assisting with the accounting in the trucking department to Trucking Dispatch and ending as a Project Specialist, arranging trucking for over dimensional cargo; such as windmill blades, CAT machinery, transformers, etc.

Due to the distance and having children at the time, I decided to make a move closer to home which is what brought me into this exciting Industry. Over the past 10 years I have learned more about the chemical side of logistics, widening my knowledge and truly found my love for working in a customer service role and with ISO tanks.

In July of this year, amongst all the ‘Covid Crazy’, I was approached with an opportunity from another Suttons employee asking if I would be interested in helping Suttons expand in Houston. I took a leap of faith during this trying time and heard what Suttons had to offer and felt that I would be a great fit with the company. I have thoroughly enjoyed working for Suttons and I’m looking forward to many years ahead. I’m currently working with imports on the dedicated accounts and import shipments.

I’m looking forward to helping the Suttons Houston area grow. My ultimate goal is to one day become an Operations Supervisor or work further up in the Houston area. I want to assist co-workers with learning the Suttons way and expand their knowledge in the logistics industry. I would like to teach others what I’ve learned that could be beneficial in their day to day operations.

I have been in logistics for about five years. As an import operator I create arrival notices to advise the customers of when their tanks are coming in, I also advise them of the PU numbers once they are provided by the SSL. I create orders for the truckers to either pick up the tank from the port to take to the customer to discharge, or pick up from the customer if they were dropped.

I am very happy working with the team and I look forward to growing with Suttons long term and advancing with the company.

KAREN DENTON – OPERATIONS CONTROLLER

I have worked in the shipping industry for going on 28 years now, mostly with tank operators. My career in the business started way back in the early 90s at Hyundai America Shipping, in the documentation department, after which I moved into the tank container industry, which is where I have remained loyal for the past 19 years of my career, honing my skills in all aspects of import and export logistics.

In my day to day role with Suttons, I am responsible for receiving, booking and executing export shipments from origin to destination, to the best of my ability.

I’ve only been with Suttons a short time, but I am looking forward to growing with the team and getting to know the new members, both in Houston and also Holmdel.
