Meet The Tankers Commercial Team

Roger Parr, Commercial Director

I joined Suttons 5 years ago having been in the transport sector for 25 years previously. I’ve worked in several roles at Suttons including Contract Manager and Operations Director prior to the Commercial Director role which I began around 2 years ago.

I lead the Commercial team, setting out the business development strategy to ensure we have sufficient achievable opportunities available to meet our strategic plans for growth. We articulate Suttons’ strengths and company values in our proposals to customers to give as much value as possible. It’s a similar story with our marketing activities, ensuring we promote our brand clearly and share the positive work we do for our customers.

The day job is varied but includes contact with customers to discuss opportunities, rate reviews, contract renewals, promotion, as well as service calls. I’m fortunate to have a team that has a vast amount of knowledge and experience in the commercial aspects of operating a business such as Suttons to lead in many of these areas.

We have had a successful 18 months or so working as a team across Suttons to win new business and we’re now working hard on the increased challenge of scaling up new business plans to meet our growth aspirations.

Billy Bamin, Head of Commercial Finance

I have 24 years’ worth of experience in the logistics industry undertaking various finance and operational business support roles. I am fully qualified in accountancy and have been part of the Suttons family for the past 6 years as Head of Commercial Finance.

My role supports the business growth plan and covers all aspects of commercial, coupled with offering existing and new customers a design, and in some cases a bespoke solution, that is competitive and adds major value in price, and most importantly, sustainability and longevity.

I like the challenges the role gives me especially providing customers with a market leading solution that gives the value add whilst managing risk. Winning new business is just the start, supporting the business in fulfilling our promises is a critical factor of our future success.

2020 was a challenging year for all but it proved our department’s most successful year on record with a number of new material contracts won. The latest being the BOC cylinder operation that will commence in April 2021.

Nigel Gilhooley, Commercial Manager

Meet than 35 years, in operational, customer key account management and commercial roles.

The day job includes new business development, existing customer projects, rate reviews and contract renewals. Every day presents a fresh challenge, which is part of the buzz I get from being in our business. I’m fortunate to work with a great team whose passion for success, broad knowledge, and pride in our business shines out.

We’ve had our most successful year despite the challenges of remote working and everyone’s working hard to build on this success.

Cameron Smith, Business Development Executive

I joined the Suttons team in September 2018 on a graduate programme. Since joining Suttons, I have worked in our Operations team and more recently in our Commercial team as Business Development Executive.

My day-to-day role is predominantly in solution design, working with both new and existing customers to optimise their transport operation.

The best thing about working for Suttons is that no day is ever the same, with new challenges and opportunities coming thick and fast!

Jessica Russell, Marketing Manager

I have been at Suttons for just over a year now and have thoroughly enjoyed defining our brand proposition, growing our brand awareness and working closely with the team to support securing new business wins.

Winning new business is a great feeling for everyone involved, but for me, the most important part of my role is ensuring we provide an excellent level of service to our existing customers at every step of the journey. Retaining loyal customers is just as important as winning new ones.

The best part about my role is how varied it is. I’m constantly working on new projects, thinking up new ideas to enhance our digital strategy and ways we can communicate the things that make us different at Suttons.

I’m lucky that I get to work with so many different people across the business, finding out about significant success stories, customer commendations and ways in which we can promote our brand.

Designing the livery for our first contract in the waste water sector with Yorkshire Water was a particular highlight for me, as well as organising the photoshoot and securing PR opportunities.

I’m looking forward to what we can achieve in 2021!
