Sika and Suttons Tankers’ partnership results in more efficient admixture deliveries

Sika, through its established partnership with Suttons Tankers, is taking steps to make the delivery of concrete admixtures to sites more advanced and efficient.

Working together for just over 18 months, the partnership with Suttons means that certain admixtures, namely Sika® Plastiment®-190 and Sika ViscoFlow®-1000, are delivered through a mini bulk solution via road tankers to sites, rather than Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs).

This has proven successful, with Sika currently operating one tanker for the South East area through Suttons and planning to add another in the North East in the coming months. Integrated tank telemetry aligned with the Sika eShop means streamlined, automated ordering, and further highlights our commitment to digital technologies which better serve our customers.

Benefits of using road tankers

Sika strive to make its processes and services as operationally efficient as possible for its customers, and there are several benefits of using road tankers rather than IBCs.

Road tankers provide advantages to both Sika as a supplier and to its customers. These include:

  • Reduced health and safety risk.
  • Sustainability – reduced plastic waste.
  • Water usage – to wash out used IBCs.
  • Less fuel usage for collections.
  • No requirement to empty IBCs onsite ready for collection.
  • Reduced risk of on-site spillages

A more sustainable way

Drummond Welsh, Head of Sales and Technical – Concrete, comments: “Using road tankers is simply more sustainable and environmentally friendly, thanks to the reduction in potential spillages they offer, a reduction in plastic, and the fact that they eradicate the need for a return journey.

“Through our partnership with Suttons we can improve efficiency on site for our customers, ensuring we help projects run as seamlessly as possible.”

Nick Wellings, Supply Chain Manager, adds: “Sika’s move to tanker deliveries has been an outstanding success, both from a Sustainability and Health & Safety perspective, and our collaborative partnership with Suttons has improved our reliability and service to our customers in the South East. In addition, with the on-board flow meters recording the exact delivery quantity by product, we know our customers are receiving precisely what they have ordered.”

Paul Blakeston, Head of Chemicals at Suttons Tankers, comments: “It has been a pleasure to develop a partnership with Sika over the past 18 months and we look forward to strengthening this further going forward. Delivering their concrete admixture products through a mini-bulk solution has proven to drive efficiencies as well as customer satisfaction.

“This alternative solution also has an environmental benefit through an increased payload and reduced journeys, supporting both Suttons’ and Sika’s commitment to ESG.”
