General and Hazardous Chemical Solutions – One of the UK bulk road transport that we work in is the chemicals sector. We currently provide both fully managed logistics solutions and single ‘spot’ product movements for manufacturers working with a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals and other highly sensitive products.
Working with speciality chemicals requires the adherence to rigorous best practices for the safety of our team, the general public, and the environment. This is why we require all of our drivers to be ADR certified and trained to the highest standards. It also requires careful storage and handling of our customers’ products so that volatile, corrosive, or otherwise easily destabilised chemicals retain their characteristics following transport.

Bulk Chemical Road Transport
Our chemical transport fleet is extensive, including GP, rubber-lined, multi-compartment, and lagged tanks. This means we are equipped to transport many chemical types such as hazardous, non-hazardous, solvents, acids, alkalis, and aromatics. All of our tankers executing dangerous goods transport are equipped with trained drivers and a suite of technology that can either be managed in-cab or remotely to protect the integrity of our customers’ products.
One such piece of technology is our tank heating solution. If our customers have products that need to remain at a certain temperature or be heated during or after transport, then they can rest assured knowing that a member of our team is monitoring the temperature of their goods during transit and can instantly make remote changes to the temperature if required. Our team, including our drivers, carry out risk assessments before loading or discharging a product, and are continually trained in the handling of chemicals and other dangerous goods according to the ADR through refresher sessions, audits, and the Ryder Marsh OCAID.

What Is The Minimum Chemicals Transport Amount?
The vast majority of our chemical road tanker fleet can carry up to 28 tonne of product, however, there are occasions when a customer does not require a full tank of product to be moved. All chemical products have different specifications which can be examined on the Material Safety Data Sheet, but sometimes if only a small amount of product is required to be moved, Schenk may use a multi compartment tank and fill the other compartments with water to ensure consistent distribution throughout the tank. Maximising payloads is a great way to improve efficiencies and ensure best value for money, so we do encourage our customers to load as much product as is safe to do so.
How Much Does Chemical Logistics Cost?
The pricing for chemical freight services varies depending on the requirements from the customer. There are many different elements that impact the pricing including: loading and delivery destinations, nature of the product, customer delivery profile and when we can unload the product, whether the product requires steam heating, the type of tank that is required to fulfil the job safely, and the frequency of the job. Our Commercial team are always on hand to help price up work for customers, whether that be contract work with dedicated fleet or spot business.
